Regional powerhouse FERRERE offers a ‘very high level of service equal to that of US firms’ and employs ‘technical lawyers with excellent drafting skills’. The team is also praised for going beyond mere legal counsel and being able to ‘coordinate work with the other parties involved’ in a transaction. The firm’s core banking and finance activity relates primarily to multilateral and bilateral loans, but large financial blue-chip institutions such as Bank of America, ABN Amro and Deutsche Bank are also on the client roster. Practice head Néstor Loizaga is ‘very well connected and knowledgeable in many áreas’; he recently acted as local counsel for Elkem Foundry Invest regarding the formation of a ferrosilicon plant joint venture with Aleaciones Yguazú. The team has also been very active in the mining sector, advising export company Sociedad de Infraestructuras Iberoamericanas (SII) on a joint venture to exploit a mine. In February 2014, Marysol Estigarribia, who is experienced in M&A, labour and social security issues, was promoted to the partnership. FERRERE’s labour team plays a key role in the transactional and business-incorporation activity which the firm’s Paraguayan office is increasingly known for. It advises on all employment aspects of establishing and managing local operations in Paraguay; as well as undertaking labour due diligence and other labour-related transactional support. The team also advises international and national clients on day-to-day human-resource matters; for example, practice head Marysol Estigarribia, who was made partner in February 2014, is advising Brazilian mining company Vale on various issues including the termination of a senior staff member. Néstor Loizaga is also recommended.
